Brazilian League Tells Referees Not to Take It Anymore
From: Brazilian League Tells Referees Not to Take It Anymore. [Only captain's allowed to talk to the referee (MGD)]
It sounds like things have gone from bad to worse in South-America and Brazil in particular, complaining to referees.
Now what surprises me, reading the article and hearing coaches and players complain, is that they do not seem to be aware of the clear rule that only the captain is allowed to respectfully address the referee, and no other player.
Off course a coach should be allowed to talk to a referee, especially during the break, but first of all, in Brazil things have gone so far away from sportsmanship, that referee's simply feel threatened now by the slightest offence.
Also coaches can ask a question, but should refrain from questioning the decision outright, the problem is there are no clear rules for that, and it is correct that in Europe there is a more mature culture, especially in England, when it comes to these things. However even in England coaches are reprimanded time and time again, so respect needs to be there.
I applaud the decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation, and hope that players and referees realise that the captain can always, respectfully, yet exclusively, talk to the referee.
