Good Days For Shaving, Cutting Hair And Cutting Nails
Shaving/Haircut (Kshoura Karma)
Friday is the best day for shaving. Wednesday is a good second.
Shaving, cutting hair and/or nails on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday will increase life by 7, 5, 10, 11 months respectively.
Shaving, cutting hair and nails on Sunday, Saturday, Tuesday will decrease the life by 1, 7, 8 months respectively.
Those who want to have sons are recommended not to shave, cut hair and nails on Monday.
Those who want knowledge and good luck (money) are recommended not to shave, cut hair and nails on Thursday.
When shaving a beard, start from the right side, then cut the moustache. Then armpits and at last the hair on the head. Then shave whichever hairs are to be shaven and lastly cut the nails.
Special days like Ekadasi, Caturdasi, Amavasya, Purnima, Sankranti, Vyatipata, days of Vrata and Sradha, are not recommended for Kshoura Karma
The above points are taken from Nitya Karma Puja Prakash by Gita Press. They cite references from Gruhya Sutras, Taittiriya Brahmanam and Varahi Samhita.
One can also refer to Yati Dharma Sangraha of Vishweswara Saraswati (published as 60th book in Anandashram Sanskrit Series marked as ASS_060 ) which describes the Kshoura Vidhi.
Mornings are more suitable than evenings, for any of these activities.

I understand that you have quoted & compiled the above information from the famous Gita Press book on nitya karmas & vidhis. The slokas pertaining to this, according to the book, are attributed to "Vaaraahi-Samhita".
ReplyDeleteHowever, these slokas speak only of haircut/shaving, but not nail-cutting, as has been written by you, although there's no harm in applying the same rules to the latter too.
Hence, if somebody(mistakenly) cuts his nails on Tuesday/Saturday/Sunday, it does not give the same ill-effects as those related to hair. Among these 3 prohibited days too, according to Hindujagruti.com, Saturdays& Sundays are to be strictly avoided, while tuesdays are partly fine(assuming that the act is committed inadvertently).
thank you.
