Olie Bollen (Dutch Doughnuts)
Ingredients:
2 packs dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup of beer
1 cup raisins
50 gr or 5 Tbs butter
1 liter of sunflower oil for frying
white powdered sugar for decoration
Put the Raisins in the Beer for +/- 20 minutes and take them out.
Dissolve the Yeast in the Warm Water in a small mixing bowl. In a large mixing bowl, combine (sifted) Flour, Sugar, and Salt. Add the yeast mixture, Milk and Beer; and mix together (you can try and use a mixer). Now mix in the welted Raisins with a spoon.
Cover the prepared dough with a wet towel and put in a warm place. Allow to rest and rise for 1/2 hour till 1 hour.
Heat the Oil for frying to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) in a heavy bottomed, deep skillet.
Take a wet/buttery/oily spoon and add a spoon of dough in the preheated oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Put them in a bowl with paper towel. Dust with Powdered Sugar while warm.
