Dahl (Dal) - Protein Soup

 For 2 persons

1 Cup of Brown Lentils

1 Cup of Red Lentils

1 Tablespoon of Butter or Ghee. (or Olive Oil)

1 Tablespoon of Fresh Ginger

1 Tablespoon of Cumin Seeds

1 Teaspoon of Turmeric

1 Teaspoon of Cayenne 

0.5 Teaspoon of Crushed Nutmeg

0.5 Teaspoon of Crushed Cloves

0.5 Teaspoon of Crushed Cardamon (or powder)

1 Teaspoon of Himalayan Salt

1 Tablespoon of Butter or Ghee

1 Litre of Water

1 Teaspoon of Crushed Black Pepper

Wash the two Dahls in a bowl, until the water clears (about seven times). And throw away the water.

Boil 1 litre Water in a boiler or kettle (or pan).

Melt the butter in a thick pan. Crush the Ginger in a Mortar (or grate), and fry for 1 minute while stirring with a wooden spoon, add the Cumin Seeds and fry for 1 minute while stirring, add the Nutmeg, Cloves and Cardamon, and add the Cayenne and Turmeric.

Fry for 1 more minute, and add the Dahl. Fry for 5 minutes while stirring, and add the boiling water. 

Cook for about 30 minutes and mix with a hand blender. Add the Himalayan Salt.

When serving add a little Lemon and crushed black pepper (optional).

Serve with Whole Wheat Bread and Butter with Himalayan Salt.
