Simple Kichari - Rice with mung Dahl
For 2 persons
1 cup of Basmati Rice (orany other rice)
1 cup of Mung Dahl (or any other dahl or lentils)
3 Tablespoons of Ghee or Sunflower Oil (or any oil or even butter)
1 tablespoon of Grated Ginger
1 tablespoon of Grated Kurkuma (and/or 1 teaspoon of powdered Turmeric)
1 tablespoon of Cumin Seeds
1 teaspoon of Fresh Chili or 2 dried chilis or half a teaspoon powdered chili of Cayenne pepper.
1 teaspoon of Asafetida
1 liter of Boiling Water
Wash the Rice and Dahl in a pan. Wash the Dahl about 3 times and the Rice about 7 times, until the water is clear. Put the oil or ghee in a pan, fry the Ginger, Kurkuma and the Chili, add the Asfetida, add the Cumin seeds. Fry for 1 minute add the Rice and the Dahl, add the powdered Turmeric. Fry for about 5 minutes and add Boiling Water. Boil for about 20 minutes.
Serve with Fresh Lemon, Black Grounded Pepper, and Grounded Sea Salt.
After you add the Rice and Mung Dahl you can also add different vegetables like Carrots, Cauliflower, potatoe, brussels sprouts, spinach etc.
