The 24 Incarnations Given by Suta Gosvami in Chronological Order
The Cosmic Dawn (155.52 Trillion Years Ago)
Day 1, Year 1 of Lord Brahmā's entire existence.
The universe is constructed, and the eternal, liberated sages are generated.
1st Incarnation: The Four Kumāras
Time: ~155.52 Trillion Years Ago (Day 1, Year 1 of Lord Brahmā).
Context: Created directly from Brahmā's mind; they reject worldly family life to remain celibacy-focused monks.
2nd Incarnation: Devarṣi Nārada
Time: ~155.52 Trillion Years Ago (Shortly after the Kumāras on Day 1).
Context: Born from Brahmā's heart to act as the cosmic space-traveling guide of devotional service (bhakti).
3rd Incarnation: Lord Haṁsa (The Divine Swan)
Time: ~155.52 Trillion Years Ago (Early Day 1).
Context: Appears directly to Lord Brahmā and the Kumāras to resolve a complex philosophical doubt regarding the nature of the mind and sense objects, establishing the path of pure yoga.
4th Incarnation: Lord Hayagrīva (The Horse-Headed Form)
Time: ~155.52 Trillion Years Ago (During the initial dawn of creation).
Context: Descends to retrieve the stolen Vedic scriptures from the demons Madhu and Kaiṭabha, restoring the universal codes of knowledge to Lord Brahmā so he can build the universe.

Brahma is now 50 years old (18,000 days and nights: 50 years times 360 days = 18,000 Days. That means 18,000 kalpas ie 4.3 billion years per kalpa). We land on the very first hours of our current day (the Śveta-Varāha Kalpa), which began exactly 1,972,949,127 years ago.
The Current Day (The Śveta-Varāha Kalpa)
Every incarnation listed below occurs sequentially as time moves forward through the various Manvantara administrative cycles of this single day of Brahma.
I. The Era of the 1st Manu (Svāyambhuva Manvantara)
This era began roughly 1.97 billion years ago and lasted for 306.72 million human years.
5th Incarnation: Śveta-Varāha (The White Boar)
Time: ~1.97 Billion Years Ago (The opening minutes of the Kalpa).
Context: Appears from Brahmā’s nostril to hoist the flooded Earth out of the Garbhodaka Ocean so civilization can begin.
6th Incarnation: Lord Yajña
Time: Generation 1 of human history (~1.96 Billion Years Ago).
Context: Born as the son of Prajāpati Ruci and Ākūti (Manu's daughter). He steps in to rule as King Indra because the cosmic post is completely vacant.
7th Incarnation: Nara-Nārāyaṇa Twin Sages
Time: Generation 2 of human history.
Context: Twin sons of King Dharma and Mūrti (Manu's daughter); they establish the Himalayan hermitage of Badarikāśrama to teach absolute sensory control.
8th Incarnation: Lord Kapila
Time: Generation 2 of human history (Parallel to Nara-Nārāyaṇa).
Context: Son of Sage Kardama and Devahūti (Manu's daughter); he reincarnates to restore the lost metaphysical science of Sāṅkhya yoga.
9th Incarnation: Dattātreya
Time: Generation 3 of human history (~1.90 Billion Years Ago).
Context: Son of Sage Atri and Anasūyā; he wanders the ancient world teaching transcendence and acts as the avadhūta who speaks to King Yadu.
10th Incarnation: King Ṛṣabha
Time: Generation 5 of human history (~1.70 Billion Years Ago).
Context: Son of King Nābhi and Merudevī; he rules the world at the peak of the 1st Manvantara before renouncing his crown to teach the path of absolute spiritual perfection.
II. The Era of the 6th Manu (Cākṣuṣa Manvantara)
There is no mention of an avatara in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Manvantaras to arrive roughly 1.2 billion years later.
11th Incarnation: Rakta-Varāha (The Second Varāha)
Time: ~800 Million Years Ago.
Context: The demon Hiranyākṣa attacks the solar systems and drops the Earth back into the ocean; the Lord descends a second time as a dark/red boar to slay him.
12th Incarnation: Lord Kūrma (The Tortoise)
Time: ~750 Million Years Ago (During the Churning of the Ocean).
Context: Descends into the cosmic ocean to act as a pivoting base for the churning of Mandara Mountain.
13th Incarnation: Lord Dhanvantari
Time: Directly following Kūrma's pastime.
Context: Emerges from the milk ocean carrying the nectar of immortality and inaugurates the medical science of Ayurveda.
14th Incarnation: Mohini Mūrti
Time: Directly following Dhanvantari's pastime.
Context: The Lord manifests in the form of a woman to trick the demons out of the nectar of immortality.
III. The Era of the 7th Manu (Our Current Vaivasvata Manvantara)
The current era has been running for roughly 120 million years.
15th Incarnation: Lord Matsya (The Fish)
Time: The structural transition at the opening of our current Vaivasvata Manu's era (~120 Million Years Ago).
Context: Guides King Satyavrata’s boat safely through a massive planetary flood to rescue the Vedas.
16th Incarnation: Lord Narasiṁha (The Half-Man, Half-Lion)
Time: Satya Yuga of the 4th Mahayuga cycle (~115 Million Years Ago).
Context: Steps out of a solid pillar to tear apart the tyrant Hiranyakasipu and protect the child Prahlāda.
17th Incarnation: Lord Vāmana (The Dwarf Brāhmaṇa)
Time: Tretā Yuga of the 7th Mahayuga cycle (~102 Million Years Ago).
Context: Begs for three paces of land from King Bali to conquer and reclaim the upper planetary systems.
18th Incarnation: Lord Paraśurāma
Time: Tretā Yuga of the 21st Mahayuga cycle (~3.5 Million Years Ago).
Context: Cleanses the Earth of corrupt military monarchs twenty-one consecutive times using a battle-axe.
19th Incarnation: Śrīla Vyāsadeva
Time: Dvāpara Yuga of the 28th Mahayuga cycle (~5,100 Years Ago).
Context: Son of Parāśara Muni and Satyavatī; he edits and compiles the single Veda into four distinct texts for the current age.
20th Incarnation: Lord Rāmacandra
Time: Tretā Yuga of the 24th Mahayuga cycle (~1.2 Million Years Ago).
Context: Rules Ayodhyā as the ideal monarch and slays the multi-headed demon king Rāvaṇa.
21st Incarnation: Lord Balarāma
Time: Dvāpara Yuga of the 28th Mahayuga cycle (5,128 Years Ago).
Context: Manifests alongside Kṛṣṇa carrying a plowshare to destroy unrighteous forces.
22nd Incarnation: Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa
Time: Dvāpara Yuga of the 28th Mahayuga cycle (5,128 Years Ago).
Context: The original Supreme Personality of Godhead descending in His full primeval form to speak the Bhagavad-gītā.
23rd Incarnation: Lord Buddha
Time: Kikata province, early Kali Yuga (~2,500 Years Ago).
Context: Manifests to establish the principles of ahimsā (non-violence) and stop the misuse of animal sacrifices.[Future]
24th Incarnation: Lord Kalki
Time: Exactly 427,000 Years into our future (At the twilight hour of Kali Yuga).
Context: Will appear in Sambhala village to completely end the current age of degradation and restart the Satya Yuga.

avatārāḥ — incarnations; hi — certainly; asaṅkhyeyāḥ — innumerable; hareḥ — of Hari, the Lord; sattva-nidheḥ — of the ocean of goodness; dvijāḥ — the brāhmaṇas; yathā — as it is; avidāsinaḥ — inexhaustible; kulyāḥ — rivulets; sarasaḥ — of vast lakes; syuḥ — are; sahasraśaḥ — thousands of.
O brāhmaṇas, the incarnations of the Lord are innumerable, like rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water.
